Introduction

Week 1

My name is Regan Coe, and I am completing my internship under Sophia Anastos, Director of the River Forest Public Library. Over the past few decades, the RFPL relegated various books and documents into an unofficial archive in the library basement. As no one has reviewed or documented this information, I will be working with Sophia to organize and document this ten-box collection, and then create an online archive to make this collection available to the public.

I have spent this first week familiarizing myself with the information I will be working with. It’s amazing how many documents can fit into ten boxes! I’ve reviewed the contents of the first five, and I can already see an organizational structure emerging from the contents. These documents provide a wealth of information not only on the library, but also on the history of River Forest itself. Both Sophia and I are actually somewhat surprised by the extent of fascinating information I’ve discovered. After an informal review of the contents so far, we are agreed that an online archive of these documents will benefit both the library and the community.
